I’m looking for some feedback on this new extruder+carriage I am designing.
It’s basically a very thin/lightweight stepper motor, geared with metal gears (13t/60t) mounted on the back of the X carriage with a rod from the gear going through the carriage to the front (where any 5mm drive gear can be used).
It’s obviously not complete yet, but I would love to hear what people think of the idea

The gears do interfere with one of the stepper screws, but that is not a problem:

The big bear is a bit heavy, I might drill out some of the material in it as it is really overkill atm.
Yeah, minimum weight direct drive. Also designing it for dual extrusion in the future.
It’s going on my custom printer, which is a Cartesian style mendelmax derivative with vertical x and 12mm rods.

I’m considering using plastic gears to save more weight, do you know where to get some good alternatives?
