I'm trying to give LW4 a go,

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty , are you using a mouse?

Nope the trackpad. Point, click left side( don’t release), move to the area

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty Frustrating. That’s what I’m doing and when I move after clicking it highlights stuff instead of dragging and dropping.

Ok, I managed to get the drag to work on a Mac trackpad. It looks like you are just highlighting the UI but it does add the file to the gcode list.

A visual cue that something is being moved from one section to the other will be very important with this approach.

Another possibility to avoid the drag/drop situation and once again simplify things it so have an ‘ADD’ or ‘+’ button to add the document to the gcode list.

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty , this RecordIt app is pretty handy! Here’s what happens when I drag and drop. http://g.recordit.co/mDoKPSMAqp.gif

Sorry. Bad link. Here’s the right one. http://recordit.co/mDoKPSMAqp

I understand your frustration lol. There nothing like dragging air. BTW what’s your current OS and Chrome version

@Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty Holy crap, I just went to check my Chrome version, and it said I had an update. I updated real quick and I just tried the drag and drop and it worked!!!

Fist rule of LW4. Update you chrome lol

I hate to say it, but I’m terrible about updating everything except Adobe CC.

I didn’t see if it was mentioned above or not, but you don’t have to drag the entire document. You can actually drag individual paths for different operations without bringing down the entire document. Lots of powerful stuff in the new interface.

What sort of speeds are you guys using for engraving? I’ve been having a terrible time with the latest LW3 and getting weird patterns that look like acceleration due to ringing. They seem to be gone with LW4 (so far anyway), but I’m getting dark edges in my rasters.

Also, are any of you seeing resolution issues? My engraving looks kind of pixely.

And one more question! Does Laser Diameter in the CAM tab overwrite beam diameter in the settings tab?

I’m kinda curious about the choice of beam diameter in the individual CAM operations as well. My confusion stems from them being required. If you MUST have a value in there, my opinion is that it should pull from your configured beam diameter and pre-fill the text box. Otherwise remove the required field and let it default to the configured beam diameter or allow you to enter a value as an override.

I assume it’s treated like a step-over value.

It is like step over; it will eventually pull defaults over. Right now the beam diameter in the settings tab only affects the preview.

@Todd_Fleming I just opened a feature request that is somewhat relevant to this conversation. Let me know if you want to talk through it or if it makes sense as I wrote it up.

+Peter van der Walt See above for our brief discussion on that beam diameter setting. Looks like the one in the operation is the one that is applied to the gcode while the one in settings only affects the preview function. Will note that for revisit later after the materials database is implemented.
