I'm working on a lighting installation that will be hanging in an open-faced structure

I’m working on a lighting installation that will be hanging in an open-faced structure outdoors, and am in the process of transforming my test rig into something moisture-resistant. The locale typically has thick fog roll through nightly, which will add to the visual appeal of the installation but means a lot more dripping dew to worry about. I’ve sealed project boxes before and my LEDs are already fully waterproofed, but I’m dealing with more current than any of my previous outdoor projects and so I think it might be time to acquire a power supply designed for outdoor use.

There are a number of very low-priced Chinese-manufactured weatherproof power supplies—some rain resistant when upright, some sealed—but I’d prefer to purchase something from a reputable brand if I’m going to be pushing 40+ amps of 5VDC. Has anyone had any good or cautionary experiences with such products?

I use a lot of waterproof 12V DC to 5V DC converters, not sure if that helps, but it’s much easier to get a 12v supply than a 5v supply. They go up to 30A. Either from eBay or aliexpress.

This actually does help a lot, and confirms where I was thinking of going with this. I’m leaning towards a beefy Mean Well 12V waterproof supply and using a handful of automotive/marine 5V step-down converters to handle the final leg near the strips. This gives a lot more leeway in where I place the power supply without worrying as much about voltage drops.

If you’re in Europe and in a hurry, I have a stock of them. If not probably best to get them from AliExpress
