Improved XYZ map and completed prototype stand for the ULTiM8x8 cube.
I reworked the map, switching from 8x8x8 to 10x10x10, which reduces the seams between panels. The old map, for example, treated all LEDs on one panel as X==0, and the first column of LEDS in the adjacent panel as X==0. The new map treats that same column of LEDs as X==1 instead.
The next stand prototype will rotate and have a shorter cylindrical base. I need to work on my 3D printer, I’m getting bad under-extrusion gaps and seams. Might be time for a new PTFE tube and/or nozzle. Been thinking about upgrading to a Bondtech extruder and Micro Swiss all metal hotend.
This is awesome! These kimd of 3D displays could be ven better with a gyro/accel inside or some kind of motion tracking. You could create a 3d image and rednder it in slices on the surface of the cube depending on where you move. This idea wasnt mine, a bunch of people sugested it to me for a spherical device i made like this, but it could work on any shape
@Leon_Yuhanov that would be very nice , the problem to be solved on such implementation I think , is to capture the viewer location in respect to the cube , as all projections will need that information to create a real 3D sensation …
