In a moment of Lithophane experimenting this morning I took a clay leaf impression, (which my wife likes to make and decorate), and photographed it on a soft blanket. Photographed with low lighting angle to increase shadows, it gave an interesting mottled surface to the 3d model when processed through @Mark_Durbin 's excellent “Image to Lithophane” utility. Within a few seconds I had an STL file ready for slicing and printing.
I had seen 3d textured surfaces in various shared designs in the past and had wondered how to construct them, but it seems photographing a “bumpy” surface and processing it though Mark’s utility may be one of the quickest routes! Incorporating other objects into the photo gives interesting results. Do experiment (and share)!
That looks great Ivor. Thanks for posting.
BTW, I don’t know if you noticed, I’ve added a 360° solid to the options for single/dual perimeter quick prints
@Mark_Durbin You are a gent! I also notice Flat Positive/Negative and the Drop Down name change to “Form”! Sweet!
I did think the list a little long now and it would be nice to have pos/neg on the curved prints, so I’ll probably put a pos/neg button on the mono image. But it was a nice quick fix this way and I’m always making promises that I never get round to…
wow
