in case anyone is interested - i tested a lot of layer cooling solutions, and so had to come up with a design where i could just snap on a bracket that would be easy to design/mod that would fit to the specific layer cooler i was testing.
along the way, i noticed that cooling the lower part of the e3d-v6 heatsink and throat yields better results (at least for me) when printing faster with a lot of retracts.
i finally settled on a design that has worked well for well over 5 months now, and when prusa’s mk3 was released i made an adapter for it’s layer cooler to test.
i ended up modding the layer cooler a bit as well (nothing major, mainly improving tolerances, strength, air path, etc…) and it’s easily one of the better solutions i have tested (if anyone is interested in the very long list, i can add it as a comment).
so, i got over myself - and have uploaded the design to thingiverse and onshape.
thingiverse - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2769783
onshape - https://cad.onshape.com/documents/fa9d2c92fc5fa4cfced6d32c/w/724d95ccf4edcc5b3c95359c/e/ec243d25a6057a7f96d04ce0

the bracket is not the final version, i needed something to work with - so i did a “quick and dirty” job, but i’m quite happy with how it turned out and with the performance.
weight/mass could easily be reduced by removing most of the surface that is not needed to touch the 5015 blower.

hope someone else finds it useful…

A lot of work went into that - thanks for sharing! I’m working on getting my OnShape skills up to something a bit more useful, sharing your document will help! I’m also trying to get a decent cooling nozzle setup for my Lawrence_Modded Printrbot Simple. So this should help there too.

@Alex_Wiebe i’ll be happy if it helps in any way, tough you’d probably benefit more from a lot of the youtube videos and more professional models out there. i learned most of my CAD skills from youtube and designing stuff.

thanks @David_Sherwood - i like onshape a lot as well, i’d probably use it as a single solution if they has some kind of offline solution (like gmail does), and the ability to export the entire model work (like fusion’s .f3d format). but i use it for everything that’s not personal. it blows your mind (especially as a software developer) what they have been able to achieve in the browser, that a lot of companies/projecs have not been able to do in a desktop app.

oh - and let me know how it turns out, i’d love to get any feedback on it…
