In the middle of upgrades.

In the middle of upgrades. The bottom is a V2 Printrbot Plus but with Aluminum Z couplers. The X bridge and carriage is all from a V1 Printrbot Plus (long story, that). Just wanted a tall print to stress the Z couplers. http://www.thingiverse.com/make:63112

When using that style of coupling, which is usually quite stiff, you might end up adding more Z-wobble to your prints if you don’t machine the ends of your Z-rods to a known diameter and use matching couplings. This is because an external thread will always have an outside/maximum diameter smaller than its nominal diameter, and with the way the couplings grip the axle and push on the PUR spider, it might grip the axle off-center.

Well a) the sizes do match, but also b) these are not the solid couplings. The red is an elastomer spider.

elastomer spider … !?

I just use clear tubing that’s pretty tight for the z couples, before I had printed versions of that z coupler which broke often.

@Phillip_Katete A little stretchy plastic insert that makes the coupling flex for each shaft.

@Ben_Van_Den_Broeck Yeah these replace wooden couplers with tubing insert which work ok too. These were cheap ebay specials.

and how about wal thickness please?

woh wow
