Inside, an ESP8266 with a FastLED library and an algorithm that simulates the passage of light flashes from one point to another …

Amazing! The Webserver looks also very cool. How have you realized this?
Lars, to get this effect, I took a lot of time and work.
@Luca_Mori_kokiua I could imagine. Maybe if you want, you could share some thoughts about it. I think for many people here would that be very interesting. Thanks
Very nice effect.
to create the control web page, I have used this link (http://jqmdesigner.appspot.com/designer.html#id=1489992289228&view=design) and many features of JQuery Mobile
+1 for sharing details. I would love to see the code and build details for this.
@Luca_Mori_kokiua the link is broken, I think
@Luca_Mori_kokiua - Great project! Can you please share any details on how you made your light tubes and what material you used to make them?
Ken White, to find the right stuff, I made many attempts. Now this project is on sale at the best bidder … I’m also trying to build a very large version (an artistic installation) in a square of a small village here in Italy …
@Luca_Mori_kokiua Are you saying you don’t want to share the details on what your project is made of because you are selling it? I would also very much be curious to learn what materials you used for the project, and the code.
Mike Clifford, here in Italy the working life is very tough. I do not have an income for a long, long time (I’m 59 years old, and for my age, work is not found). So I’m saying that I worked hard to get this result, and before I “give free” to the world my discoveries, I want to see if I can get at least a “reimbursement expense”
@Luca_Mori_kokiua I totally understand. I am a patent attorney, so I make a living by helping people protect their ideas. However, there are times where giving away ideas can actually make you more money in the long run than keeping them; e.g., by sharing ideas you can grow a following and garner support from peers, and that following/support can be leveraged for other business opportunities. Only you can figure out what approach is right for you. I will add that the people who will buy your product probably are not in this forum, since everyone here likes to make things on their own. (There are lots of people that will buy your product though, since it looks amazing!) And, the members of this community are not the type to take your idea and make the identical product to sell. I think members of the FastLED community are mostly interested your technique so they can take inspiration from your work and make something new and different on their own, and would surely give you credit for originating the technique and/or inspiring them, which could lead to more people finding your work.
Obviously, only you know what works best for you and your situation. If you ever do decide to share your materials and code, everyone would be grateful, and would not use it in any way that would impede your ability to make a living. Either way, I hope you continue to share since your work is amazing.
Acrylite makes acrylic rods specifically for edge lit LED applications. I’ve been eyeballing them for a while: http://www.acrylite.net/product/acrylite/en/products/acrylite-led/pages/default.aspx
@Mike_Clifford I did not hope to sell my idea here. I just showed my job because I used the FastLED library for the control of the led I used (common WS2812B). I talked about selling to justify my hesitation in giving too much info, because the Internet is read by many people, even those looking for good ideas for doing business. However, I can tell you that my solution is much simpler and cheaper than ACRYLITE
@Luca_Mori_kokiua It isn’t by chance glue sticks?
I’ve seen them used with LEDs before, but no idea how you’d translate this to a larger scale.
@Mike_Clifford probably just silicone cord, easy enough to locate on aliexpress
