It’s just another of like 50 of these no-name Rep2 knockoffs. And no, I sure wouldn’t - because you don’t know what kind of shit you’re going to get. If I were in the price range of $800 I’d get a Bukito, or a Mendel90, or something actually worth using. Not this knockoff bullshit, which just so happens to knock off a company that doesn’t give a fuck about its customers to begin with.
I saw one at micro center. The frame was metal and actually nice. The motors, rods, screws and guide bushings on the other hand looked like toy parts… But then again so does what it’s copying.
I don’t think it’s a Flashforge rebadge. The key pad is in a different location.
I think it’s risky to just compare features and specs without consideration for quality. Makerbot isn’t great though. If you’re looking for off the shelf that’s decent, I’d say look at the original Ultimaker. There are plenty of kits of many types of machines, do plenty of research before spending money on parts, because there’s a lot of junk parts out there. I hear Makerfarm puts out a good kit though.
@Griffin_Paquette , they didn’t have to do the R&D that the RepRap community did you mean. MakerBot didn’t contribute anything to the community. Not a damn thing.
Following the advice of avoiding any replicator clones, I did some research on the suggestions and found: The Bukito at 900 has just a 5x6x5 area and is too small for the price in my mind. Flashforge and Ultimaker are both plain out of my price range.
I looked into Makerfarm and found they have a Prusa i3v Kit that looks nice with a price I could go for. http://www.makerfarm.com/index.php/3d-printer-kits/prusa-10-i3v-kit-v-slot-extrusion.html
It has these nice looking V-SLot Linear Rails, has a 10x10x10 print area and looks like it can be expanded to dual extruders. It looks just like the Mendel90. anyone work with anything along these before? I am wondering what kind of resolution this would have.
