Is that top layer finish even possible?

Is that top layer finish even possible?

But I’ve never seen one so smooth.

Pretty damn incredible. I can see some very slight lines in the surface, but it looks almost perfect.

Jep it is. Enough top layers, perfect infill and slow printing with perfectly tuned material parameters. Some of my 12mm/s ABS prints on my UM2+ looks like this but normally im not patient enough to print with such a slow speed.

The box is big. You can’t see any details on this picture. But @SVEN_KRAUSE is printing top notch anyways…

Acetone vapors can smooth surfaces.

@John_Francis but vapors make it shiny

Looks like a really tiny nozzle

@Camerin_hahn agreed, you can still see the layering on the walls too. Impressive.

Totally possible, just needs the right nozzle geometry. Most hotends have fairly pointy nozzles these days to improve detail reproduction and bridging, if you use a flatter nozzle you’ll get much better surface quality.
But as always, there’s a lot of leeway in both directions depending on what exact slicer settings you use.

Ain’t no body got time for that. JK, that is incredible.

Looks to me like the photo is just too low res to show the flaws.

sorry for the poor pic quality. it was a screenshot off my phone…

which printer?

No idea what printer was used. My bet is probably a custom made one.

Could there be a coat of paint or filler?

Saw this on Facebook. The creator custom built his machine and it’s using a water cooler hot end.

The prints look amazing.
