Is there a way to scale the imported images up or down in laserweb, prior to generating the gcode? or does that need to be done in the image editor?

Depending on which version of LaserWeb you are using the process is different.

I suggest if you are using LW3 still, upgrade it to LW4.

Either way, LW3 you can change the DPI when you import the file (in the CAM tab related to the file you imported). This will effectively scale the image (although it can be a bit of guesswork to get the right size).

In LW4, much easier. You can click the document in the CAM & when you see it selected in the viewport window there will be a floating box that you can just type the required dimensions into.

Thanks Guys, I just got it setup, and was able to laser raster an image, and found how to scale the images.

Are the laser cut options working on laserweb4? I’m not able to generate gcode for any PNG’s that I import. Raster on the other hand is working great. I thought it might have been been a background issue, but removed the background, and it still won’t create anything

ok, looks like I have to use a vector file for cutting? SVG worked.

@Josh_Speer You are correct, vector files for cutting. BMP files for rastering.

Thanks Yussuf, I’m still learning as I go. Do you know if there is a way to rotate images on the layout? I have an item that needs to be turned a specific way in order to fit on the bed.

@Josh_Speer I don’t believe that it is possible in LW (although someone correct me if I’m wrong). I usually do all my rotation & the likes before I import the image into LW.

Yeh, I think that is what I will have to do for now, It will just have to be trial and error, until I can get it lined up.

@Josh_Speer I don’t know how GIMP works as I have rarely used it, but if you can design in mm in GIMP then you should be able to get it lined up reasonably easy. I use Photoshop currently for BMPs & Illustrator for vectors, & design all elements in mm so that I can line it up well.

My process is to design the BMP image as 330 x 230mm (my bed size) & place elements where they need to be. LaserWeb4 has an option to “burn white” (or not) so I turn it off so the laser doesn’t have to travel in areas there is no image.

I wasn’t asking it to be something its not, other plotter and engraver packages have this option, so I was asking in case I didn’t it
