Is there something going on with the new update for controlling the laser power

Is there something going on with the new update for controlling the laser power and speed? After updating…I ran a cut operation, made some adjustments and re-generated the code, and ran it again but the laser seem to run at the exact same speed and power as the first…did this a few times

Thank you!

Try saving gcode for each try and see if the F and S fields come out differently.

So I looked at the generated code for 2 different operations and the speed/power values are set just as I input them. The machine is not changing it’s speed and power based on the changes. Any ideas?

You could be exceeding your firmware’s configured max values

How do I check/change that?

Even on low power (5%), it is still firing with a mA reading of 20ish

What firmware are you using?

Ok, so new update. BTW thank you so much for helping! I think changing speeds is working fine. So now it just seems like changing the power setting isn’t changing the power output from the laser. Regardless of the percentage put into the operation in laserweb, the mA still reads 20ish. I can adjust the output with the control knob on the machine, but it doesn’t seem like it is firing at full strength compared to other machines I’ve seen. Any help?

Im running Smoothie

What are your Smoothie settings?

What do you mean? Total noob here

What does engraving look like?

Engraving seems like it is firing at the same constant power…making adjustments in the operation settings doesn’t change the power output from the laser

You said you are using a smoothie, so there’s going to be settings on there… Get the config file from the SD card and share it, so we can check whether there is possibly a setting mismatch there…

Thank you so much! Will do it tonight. Thank you for being patient!

NP! We’re a helpful bunch, and many of us started total n00bs too!

Is this a new problem or is this the first time you have tried this.

Try this: insure that the PWM period is 400 then slow the speed way down and lower the pot setting to its lowest point just before marking occurs.

Post a picture of the engraving you are testing.

Check Settings -> Gcode -> PWM Max S Value. This should normally be 1 for Smoothie.

I think it is a new problem…before I updated laserweb i think the power setting was working…

I’ll try it tonight. Thank you for the help!

Hi Cesco, Todd, and Don! This is the config file. Does anything look out of whack?
