Is this normal or to be expected for speeds? I notice that solid black areas go a lot faster than the white/grey areas… I’d imagine it would be opposite to that, so I think I’ve either got something wrong in my settings or my expectations are backwards.

Testing a large engrave this time. It makes it a little easier to see what is actually going on.
So, I notice that the speeds for areas that are solid black in the original image (e.g. the shirt) go really fast, but the areas that are being done as shades of grey (or white) go very slowly in comparison.
What I’m wondering is, is this normal behaviour?

@Yuusuf_Sallahuddin_Y Try to upload the gcode to smoothie via web interface or put on the card and run it directly, no usb bottleneck. What are your max speed and acceleration settings in config? I would test it myself but I won’t be able to untill tomorrow.
@Mircea_Russu I’ll give that a go. Haven’t tried running from SD card before, so I don’t even know how yet haha. Could be USB issue as you said.
Max speed in config is x: 60000mm/m, y: 30000mm/m. Accel is at 3000mm/m2

@Mircea_Russu How exactly do I run off SD-card? I’ve copied it onto the card… but can’t seem to find any instructions now…
@Yuusuf_Sallahuddin_Y If you have a display try selecting it there. Or set an ip in config and connect via network and play it from the interface. Make sure you have G28 in the beginning.
I forgot to run the G28 once and the laser went crazy going beyond the phisical size.
@Mircea_Russu Ah, no display for me yet. So I need to plug in via ethernet & run via the smoothie interface

+Peter van der Walt I think I will have to use that method, as I realised I can’t reach my router via ethernet (it’s upstairs more than 20m away) & no lan port on laptop. Thanks for that.
+Peter van der Walt Yeah, I think it is unlikely that it is the USB issue, but can’t hurt to test it. Seems to me that it is just my settings are off. Still a lot I have no idea what I’m doing so far.
SD support in LW will be good, so might have to bribe him some
