Is this of any worth?
Depends what you want to do with it. If cutting wood or aluminum I would go with at least a 500W spindle.
This is the stock spindle that comes on those 3040cnc machines seen on eBay… Fairly quiet, can be pwm spindle speed thru a ESC breakout board. Will do wood and plastics fairly decent but struggles alot with aluminum
I have the 400w version on my Ox
Thanks!
Ditto with @Alex_Krause , I have been using it stock on my CNC3040Z-DQ router/engraver for years now, no issue. But note that I am only milling light stuff (wood, plastic, and most often PCB). Honestly I feel no need to switch to something else, and I feel confident it could milling aluminun (by using very shallow passes). In any case roundness is and stayed perfect for me. If ever I do I would go with a De Walt router, e.g. The gantry seems sturdy enough.
Note that it defnitely was kind-of-PWM’ed natively with the stock controller, by means of a NE555 timer (and because of this, I think that the corresponding frequency settings were uncommon in LinuxCNC).
I have a 500W, a 600W and a 1.5kw spindle. I use the 600 mostly for wood and if I need to do aluminum or very dense hardwoods, I break out the 1.5kw.
Ok, I’m just initiating on milling, then it would fit fine
I’m using one on a converted MendelMax - works fine, is quiet, you do have to find a 48V supply to go along with it and they could use a few extra RPM. But overall, quite happy.
