Has anyone else noticed the 3d builder app that came with #windows10 ? I saw some neat stuff in the manual about using an Xbox Kinect as a 3d scanner. looks promising

Is it much different from the app MS made for Windows 8 or 8.1? It seemed you needed a special kind of driver, a 3D printer driver designed for your machine. I’ve only heard of Makerbot having drivers, but that was when MS was first promoting their new framework for 3D printing.

The scanning part might be totally new.

Microsoft is getting a lot more drivers ready for Windows 10. As they contacted a lot of 3D printer suppliers to build drivers for them.

(However, they ran into issues with the Ultimakers as they are disguising themselves as Arduinos to run around driver issues on Windows)

It comes with Windows 10 now? I’m glad Microsoft did that

Yeah! More bloatware on the new version of Windows. Can’t wait to find out it isn’t compatible with RAMPS, Duet, or Smoothie.

I think the main reason they bundled it was to promote the holo-lens. I’m a linux guy myself.

@John-Paul_Hopman yes and no. Not out of the box. But apparently it’s quite easy to make drivers for it, but somehow the drivers need to be linked to the USB IDs. And quite a few printers and stuff share those due to all using Arduinos…
