It’s finally done! What do you think?
Is it watertight? I had to print one twice with a thicker bottom before it would hold water.
@Fen11 so far so good! No leaks!
Nice!
ABS I assume?
@Griffin_Paquette no it’s pla.
Looks nice
Let me know how it holds up. PLA hasn’t been good for me in the sun
@Griffin_Paquette it won’t be in the sun. This little guy sits on my desk at work (which is probably why he grows all stupid). It’s a nice shady, climate controlled room 24/7. My only concern is the constant moisture. I did a bit of research and there are quite a few people talking about how pla breaks down in water. But, within this research I found that the reason pla breaks down is because the bacteria starts to eat it, like in a landfill. Well this isn’t going to be in a landfill. It’s going to have a nice comfy spot in my desk. So hopefully I won’t have any issues for some time to come. Worst case scenario is that I just move him back to his old pot.
Seems like a pretty basic shape/item to be 3D printing…
Will you share stl?
@Leonardo_Garberoglio it’s just a cactus pot from thingiverse.
There are plenty of bacteria in the dirt…
They make much better pots that cost less than the filament used at basically any store like Wal-mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Not exactly great for the environment to use a 3D printer as a Star Trek replicator, is it?
@Kyle_Hu well yeah but it’s not like a landfill or a fish tank. It’s going to be in a cool, dry area and the only moisture it will be exposed to is the damp soil.
@Jake_Smith well I’m still pretty new to 3D printing. I’ve only had my printer for about 2 months. I’m still working on dialing in the printer and actually understanding how everything works. I’m sure I’ll do some more elaborate stuff as I get better at this.
@Rob_Nance well what else are you supposed to use it for? You find something you want and then print it off. I wanted a new pot for my cactus so I made one. There are plenty of other things you can buy instead of print as well but people still print them because it’s fun. Also, it’s biodegradable so it’s really not that bad for the environment. Lastly I only spent about $2 in filament to print this, it’s not like it was expensive. Not to mention that it’s unique and no one else that I know will ever have one.
You can also buy a finished walmart sculpture for a lot less money than clay… it’s cheaper to buy veggies than to grow your own (when you factor in labor and the taxes you’repaying on your “land”)… restaurants are way easier than cooking something special for someone special… etc, etc, . I bought MY 3D printer to have fun… not change the world.
