I’ve been having problems getting a the a988 stepper driver working for my megatronics board. Tried googling but haven’t managed to find a solution yet
What kind of problems? You didn’t put them in backwards, did you?
Btw, it’s a4988.
Hehe, I stand corrected
When I turn the board on the USB power led stays on for a few seconds and then it fades and won’t come back on again until I remove the driver.
It seems as though the ATX PSU can’t give it enough power but I won’t know until I get time to try another PSU.
I see the problem… it’s out of focus
If you’re not driving a motor, it shouldn’t me drawing current. @Whosa_whatsis is probably onto the problem, make sure you’re not shorting one of your power rails out
If an ATX power supply is in a shorted condition it will sense this and cut the supply to what ever it is powering seaming that it cannot supply enough. I am i big fan of ATX supplies they work great and have great fail safes. So i no power condition can be an indication of a short may be present
Eric Moy how do you get the + with a persons name in your comment?
just like twitter and facebook, put an @ symbol before the name @Wayne_Friedt
Ah Thanks
@Eric_Moy Gotcha
The issue actually seems to be with the power supplied via the USB connection. The PSU supplies power ok and isn’t shorting.
I don’t have the same problem when I put my old stepper driver back in
Sounds like a short on the driver board’s 5V line. Unless you can see a bit of extra solder or an error in the copper etching, it’s probably a damaged or defective chip, and the only thing to do is replace it.
@Whosa_whatsis cheers for the advice I’ll get a replacement and see if that solves it
