I’ve been meaning to do this for ages. The patterns still need a lot of work and it could do with another 100 LEDs, but it’s coming together.

Very nice ! I specially like that 2nd animation !! Excellent work !!!
Hey man you gotta help me out i wanna do my tree like that lol. I was gonna use strips but this looks good too
@Cristian_Martinez , I prefer these on an organic background like a tree, strips are good on man made things with straight lines. You just need 800 (or 1200, depending on how tall the tree is) WS2811s, a teensy 3.2, Octo adapter and a BIG power supply
Lengths of 100 pixels look about right on my tree, currently there are 700 but I’ll get another 100, or just steal them off the Christmas tree at the end of Christmas. That has another 250 on it.
Yeah i wanna light mine up year round lol
You got links to the ones used here?

Thanx! Ive never used a teensy before. Whats the difference between that and a Wemos D1 mini pro?
@Cristian_Martinez Teensy has a much more powerful processor with lots of I/O, but no built-in WiFi.
Huh. A tradeoff. I want the WiFi lol. I can wire up an ESP8266 module to it to get WiFi commands thou right?
I’ll be adding a D1 Mini at some point to allow WiFi control
I’ll be adding a D1 Mini at some point to tell the Teensy what pattern to display etc.
Wouldnt it be simpler to just add the ESP module?
@Cristian_Martinez , the D1 mini doesn’t have enough pins, I need eight pins for the strips, and I’m thinking of adding some icicle drops as well which will need more pins. I was considering using an ESP32 but I had the teensy and Octo adapter and it was the easiest to set up with eight strips.
Ooooo id love to see the icicle drops!
@Cristian_Martinez , I ran out of LEDs for them
People kept buying dog collars before Christmas, and I used most of my LED stock.
The icicle drops are 500mm twisted perspex tubes which will have 148 SK9822s in each tube (two strips of 74 back to back). I’ll order some more SK9822s shortly, we’ve got a street party in the summer and I’ll have them up for that.
Dog collars? How much?
Wow, that is crazy good. Next year, get a town to sponsor you and create a forest of these in a park! These might look cool in the summer when the trees leaf out.
