I’ve been reading recently that there has been developments in printing flexible materials and I just wondered if anyone thought that there would be scope for 3D printing of flexible materials like latex in the future, 20 years or so down the line.
I’m a graphic designer currently looking at how the brand Durex might look in 20 years time, and my research has suggested that by 2030 most of us will have 3D printers in our homes so I’m looking into a downloadable Durex program with which you can print your own condom.
Any thoughts?..
thanks tim, I hadn’t seen ninjaflex
While you might be able to form what looks and feels to be a condom, I doubt that a general purpose machine would ensure that you get an actual condom that guarantees prophylaxis. Even projecting into the future, I doubt a consumer printer would, for example, perform hipot testing or other tests to ensure that the print is structurally sound.
that is true, it would rely on the consumer maybe too heavily as a product. thanks for the feedback joe
What a 3d printer (and scanner) could do though, Is provide a means of producing molds for condoms that have a perfect fit, If you see what I mean. :).
