I’ve got a Vertex Nano K8600 for my birthday and just got it operating. It works fine but the software that comes with the Nano is a customized version of Repetier Host (Windows only). However I want to use Cura as slicer on my Mac. What is the best way to proceed? The K8600 settings are not available in Cura 3.0.

Tried coping the configuración.h of your printer in a new repetier and flash it .it could work, maibe you. Will need any extra modification in the code .

There is a Mac version of (non-customized) repetier host. Have you tried connecting with that? You might just have to enter your own printer settings.

@Geoffrey_Forest Thanks for the comment but in my case the Repetier Host is only used as a slicer. The only way to load gcode to the Vertex Nano is on an SD Card. I could of course try the Mac version of Repetier to slice and then load to SD Card but if I have a choice I’d rather stick to Cura.

Love small printer. Is it printing nice?

Wait so is there no USB port whatsoever?

It’s running a version of Marlin, probably on a Velleman K8800 board (ATMega), which has a standard usb port.
The vendor does supply firmware for this printer, so that also suggests there is a USB port.
So any slicer would be good.
This picture shows the inside, and look! The usb port!
A shame they didn’t break it out, though.
But a simple cable would do the trick.

Repetier host has a mac version, and the last time I checked, it could even use cura as the buil-in slicing engine.

@Step_Cia The first print was allright but that doesn’t say much.

@Griffin_Paquette There’s a usb port on the bottom of the printer which is also pointing to the bottom which makes it very hard to use when the printer is operating. It’s for updating the firmware only (this is also what Velleman advices).

@Rien_Stouten I’m sorry if I don’t get it, I still consider myself a NOOB when it comes to 3d printing. What would it help me if I would connect the repetier host to the printer?

And yes the printer has a usb port of course but it’s position is very uncomfortable and it’s meant for firmware updates. In fact I have to remove the bottom lay the printer on it’s side to access the usb.

@Eric_Buijs If Repetier-Host is only used to slice, you should be able to use any slicer you like. Install Cura on your mac and slice with that, copy the gcode file to your SD card. You will need to set up your printer specifications in Cura. Sorry, I’m not familiar with your printer, so I’m just speaking in generalities.

I like my printer connected to the computer because its an easier interface than the small screen on the printer. I use a Raspberry Pi to host the printer so I can access it remotely. But standalone printing from an SD card is great. There are no connection issues or computers going to sleep and stopping the print to worry about. I’d say get a slicer you like, make your gcode files, and keep using the SD card to print.

@Eric_Buijs I would grab a raspberry pic zero w, set up octoprint, and then slice with any slicer. You shouldn’t have an issue unless they are using some crazy different gcode or encrypt their files which I doubt

The printer looks very nice. It shouldn’t be too hard to make a profile in Cura for your printer. I’ve only had diy printers and I’ve created profiles in Cura, Slic3r, S3d and whatever slicer I wanted to try.
You basicly only have to input the type of printer: delta or cartesian, the maximum print volume, how many extruders the printer have, if it have heatbed and what the printer firmware is.
Have fun with your printer.

@Luis_Machado @Geoffrey_Forest Thanks for your replies. I’ll follow your advice and create a profile using the printers dimensions and the Repetier gcode file that I have.

@Griffin_Paquette Once I’ve got everything up and running, and when I’m getting tired of walking up and down to the printers, I’ll take a good look at octoprint. If not for the K8600 than for my main 3d printer.

Over the weekend I create a profile in Cura for the Vertex Nano and sliced a 3d Benchy with it and printed it. Thanks for all your help.
