I’ve got some Magnetic PLA that’s brewing at @ProtoParadigm . What do you guys think of the name ProtoFlux?

#3dprinting filament

next step - a working motor?

Definitely! We’d need something like this though to finish it, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/391466300/worlds-most-conductive-3d-printing-filament

Perfect name. It rolls off the tongue whilst conveying the idea perfectly.

Yes, that was a pun (and a bad one at that) but, in all seriousness, ‘ProtoFlux’ is perfect. Go with it, mate!

More descriptive (?): ProtoMag

Will we need a flux capacitor to use this?

@Theophilus_Stark Thanks! @Carlton_Dodd ProtoMag was/is still on the short list, just not sure about how it sounded when said/read. @Wylie_Hilliard We’re kinda of wanting to make it FluxCap optional. Definitely BYOFC if you’re aiming that direction.

Wow, I would have thought the heat would hurt the magnetism? Or do you magnatise it after extrusion?

The Curie temperature is above 500C so that isn’t much of a concern. In practice you print your part then introduce a field to induce a remnant field. You’ll mostly notice the paramagnetic properties and use the remnant and coercive properties for magnetic data read/write.

Let me know when it’s for sale, then I’ll add it to my ever-growing Filament Guide http://nicklievendag.com/filament-guide
