I've had a request to split Aria so the dragon and pillar are separate

I’ve had a request to split Aria so the dragon and pillar are separate STLs. I think this would be a great idea for dual extrusion and I don’t mind putting in the work, but I would need someone to help me with testing, as I don’t have dual extrusion set up at home.

Any takers? You would need to bear in mind that I have never designed/altered models specifically for this purpose before.

I will volunteer to test for smaller envelope printers. I would like to print her but my printer will only handle 4 inches high and scaling to that height reduces the legs to the point they aren’t stable.

@Ben_Hudson Is your printer dual extrusion? I’d really like to focus on that for the time being - just to see if I can get something workable.

If it is, then I could factor in a leg modification as well. Which legs and which parts of her legs are you having problems with? She is supposed have a light build, but I dare say I could add in some extra bits to add strength.

Thanks for the offer - I do appreciate it.

I’m actually building a dual extruder now! I’m super excited about it. It’s the dual extruder for the lulzbot TAZ printers. I’m doing it to add in support for @BotQueue , but I’d like to help if it doesn’t require printing too many models. It’ll be a while for me to have everything calibrated, but I’ll definitely print one!

Excellent! What I suggest is that once you are all built and happy and calibrated, you send me a message an we’ll discuss a strategy:-) Thank you:-)

This is why I love communities like this where members co-ordinate ideas and resources. Of course, our workshop need a dual extrusion printer now @John_Driggers :stuck_out_tongue:

@Louise_Driggers My printer does not yet have dual materials but does have dual nozzles fed from the same extruder. Everything works well until I get to the legs. The body prints fine but the legs are too small and the nozzles move them around and break them off. I have to scale the model down to 30% to print it. Let me know if I can test anything for you. I use ColorFabb _XT most of the time.

@Louise_Driggers My replicator is dual extrusion, but I normally use it only for single. Nevertheles, feel free to send me a design to try.
You can see some of my dual extrusion designs, eg http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:56257

Not really difficult to make, just make sure there is no overlap between the two stl.

I find dual extrusion tricky, quite some oozing, even with abs. Newer slicers add a wall, but I stick to replicatorg for slicing which does not have that feature, as that is the software that came with the printer and gives me most consistent results. However; should you send me a design, I’ll try out makerware again and see how good the old dual replicator is supported.
