I’ve just ordered a bunch of LED strips and associated hardware (Teensy etc). None of it has arrived yet but I’m already starting to write some FastLED code in anticipation!
One thing I want to do is make a round infinity mirror where I’ll be using a circular strip of LEDs. Something I’ve now realised is that a lot of the source code I see for strip effects are designed to be run on a linear strip (i.e. with a start and an end), rather than an “endless” circular strip. Some of the effects are easy to adapt by using mod8() or similar tweaks, but many others are not. For example, any effects that “bounce” off the ends, or fade/blur out towards each end of the strip don’t translate very easily.
Does anyone know of any effects/libraries specifically designed for LED strips arranged in a circle? I’m convinced I did see a library like this a while ago but I didn’t bookmark it and haven’t been able to find again via my history or searching Any pointers much appreciated!

Thanks @marmil . I don’t think I’ll have too much trouble porting any effects (I’m a software developer by trade), I was really just wondering if there might be an existing library of wrap-around effects that might make a better starting point than the linear ones. Note that even some of the FastLED functions themselves don’t appear to be suitable for wrapping around (e.g. the blur functions) so they would need some tweaking for this too.
What I’m doing for now is coding up some effects based on what think might look good - but I won’t find out for sure until I my strips arrive from China! If I do come up with anything interesting I’ll be sure to upload them for everyone.
Ah cool. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are examples or a collection somewhere. You’ll probably find yourself rolling your own for a lot of stuff though as everyone’s setup and preferences are often unique.
I thought I’d seen such a collection but can’t for the life of me find it anymore. Oh well - as you say, rolling my own is probably the way to go anyway. I’m quite enjoying it so far without even being able to run anything
@Chris_Miller1 - What you should be looking for are sketches that look good on a ring, i.e. a circle. Parts of the DemoReel100 sketch in the FastLED examples look nice on a ring. The sinelon animation of the DemoReel100 sketch has that “bounce” off the ends effect which you want when run on a ring. The MeteorShower sketch by Jon Burroughs as seen in Adam bluebottleyellowboxyellyfish’s clock looks good on a ring:
