I’ve lately retrofitted old mill made in 1965 by Max Hansel factory in Berlin. Machine is controlled by LinuxCNC and 8.5Nm and 12.5Nm steppers.

Did you have any backslash to compensate for?

I used ballscrews 0.05mm backslash there. I had backslash on guides to and I had to add some precision stainless steel plates under the gibbs.
