I've noticed that my prints are starting no look fuzzy now that I'm using

I’ve noticed that my prints are starting no look fuzzy now that I’m using Cura to slice. My retraction looks pretty good, there is obvious retraction, but I still get this fuzz. This is Hatchbox PLA and it didn’t use to do this. I don’t mind sanding and cutting a little bit, but I wouldn’t mind just doing away with it. Any suggestions?

I wish that I had one to even be able to experience the trouble.

No doubt my first thought would be to increase retraction when I saw the pic, but consider lowering temp by a few degrees to see how it reacts. I typically move around plus/minus 5 degrees at a time when experimenting.

Make sure you download the latest Cura. I never knew there was a later version because the check for update in the app always said it was up to date… Downloaded fresh directly due to using a new machine and found it to be a new version. Also, if you have a Lulzbot there are firmware updates that come with Cura. Ding those fixed a child problems I was having and now my prints are awesome with Cura.

Have you printed this particular model before using your previous software (which was?)? Using the same filament, in the same condition?

At the end of the day if you’re using Gcode to send to the printer, it’s not going to be temperature that’s the only issue here. Unless you’re asking Cura for 220C and it’s generating Gcode that says 240C, the slicing software won’t cause different temperatures from your last slicer. Ditto for retraction settings, etc. Slicing software is only going to differ in how it interprets a model and writes movements, not basic settings like temperature, retraction, cooling and so on.

If you have printed this model before; try comparing the first few lines of Gcode generated by both slicers, I’m not sure if you’ll see anything but there might be something glaringly obvious.

I made similar observations with 2 spools of black PLA. I regularly print it at 210 C. In the beginning it looks very nice while at the end of the spool it almost floats like water out of my nozzle and I have no chance to get rid of the stringing.
Other PLA colors of the same vendor don’t show this behavior.
I have a theory that moisture and the soot, which is used to colorize the filament, leads to increasing degradation of the filament during the print but I couldn’t verify it yet.
