Just a quick Franken bot update.
I have the design for one side of the y axis done. After many many hours of thinking about how to make the y work, I came up with the design you see. I printed it upside down and I did use support for the part with the z rod but it wasn’t necessary as by printing it upside down the nut for the threaded rod would be level. It needs a little bit of adjustment on the size of the press fitted bearing sleeve as you can see it isn’t perfect in there. I did have to compromise with ease of disassembly and you have to put the y motor in before the press fitted bearing. But I don’t think that is too bad. The two smooth rods for the year axis are going horizontally under the motor. There are holes to connect their fitting but not shown in the picture.
I decided that it would be better to actually put the z threaded rod motor and z smooth rod in the same printed piece so I will revise that part asap. Looks like everything is coming together.
Sorry if this was super confusing. It will look better once I can get all the parts printed out.
Stay tuned!!

@Mark_Rehorst no I totally understand where you are coming from!!! The reason I went printed on this is that it is a school project in which kids get to put the kits together, and with that we are trying to take the steps in which they would have to drill parts or machine parts out of the equation. In truth, all of the kids who are building these are more than qualified to make aluminum parts, but not all have the tools needed when they take the printers home. I made the parts printable to allow them to access the solid works files and modify them (the school teaches a solid works course in the first level engineering classes) so that if they find a way to upgrade it that they like then they can just print out a new revision.
Cool! Good work! I love that this project is really the center of an iterative design class. This will be the first of many RepRap designs. You may end up with a bunch of different versions in the end. But the best thing is to have everyone flex their design muscles.
I’ll post my minimalist laser cut design today
we should be printing in a couple hours

@Brook_Drumm thanks!! I might be a little more than a few hours out but I hope to be printing soon!!! Can’t wait to see your design!
