Just finished a big code update on a project I did for Cirque Du Soleil’s night club LIGHT. 30 infinity mirrors running teenseys running fastLEDs, all taking DMX input from a master DMX controller which is controlled via OSC using an ipad running lemur. Fractals of fractals of LEDs of LEDs… just the way I like it

Lots of lessons learned… CC3000’s are a total mess, If you Can go wired… you Should go wired. Ultimately I scrapped thousands of $ worth of wifi hardware in favor of $50 worth of max485 chips. Teensy 3.0’s like to commit suicide if they even think that there’s 5V line close by (3.1’s are where it’s at (obviously))
Making an installation that is wasted-clubbers-in-Vegas-proof might as well need to be able to withstand a nuclear bomb. This installation literally gets punched, kicked, drinks poured on, cigarette buts put out on, tourtured beyond belief. You’re run of the mill hippie-proofing does not cut it, and interactivity is should Not be encouraged (30something broken IR sensors later)
I think that the smarter (read: more complicated) an interconnection is, the less reliable it is. Wires are freaking awesome. Dumb 433Mhz one-way RF isn’t bad. BluetoothLE is OK. Full-bluetooth…eh.And at this point, I think Wifi interconnections for embedded lighting devices is… not there yet. Sounds like we’re in agreement on this 
As for the physical abuse – that sounds like the real deal. What’s the best physical-abuse-protection you built in there?

Budget was about 30K, and it got rinsed quick. Another lesson: pad your budget Liberally.
