Just finished building my anet A8. I have no idea if it even works yet.
I just built my first 3D printer a couple days ago and I was in the same boat. “Welp, here goes nothing!” lol. Good luck and patients is key! I’ve played with mine a little and it’s still not working properly yet. I’ve just gotta play with some settings or something. It powers on and extrudes plastic but the parts aren’t coming out right just yet.
had nothing but issues with my Anet A8 el-cheapo printer from GearBest!.. Added a glass bed, but still can’t get a decent print from it. Ordered a new 0.4 nozzle, sometimes the nozzle you get with it, isn’t exactly 0.4m 
but 0.68p for a replacement!..
@Marty_G that surface finish looks a bit like wet filament or maybe a bad temperature calibration.
@Adam_Aka_azzhole Things that are too big to fit on my printrbot simple. I will start with some y braces.
