Nice prints. What upgrades are these?

What’s the parts purpose?

Y axis belt upgrade

Does that help with backlash? I hope so, because it looks like you’ve got some.

Hi @Jeffery_Myers , how does that help. Could you explain, nice to know. Must say, great prints.

I’ve got a Printrbot Simple on order, couple of weeks wait here the UK. I assume the Printrbot forum is the best go to, but have you found any other good resources? It’ll be my first 3d printer. I’m already eyeing upgrades as the print volume is quite small.

@David_McGuigan get your machine up and running and consistent then look on Thingiverse as a starting point or Printrbot forums.
Ive had mine for 9 weeks and now I understand where it needs upgrading and how to get the most out of the machine to print acurrate parts.

Yeah, need to print those myself, had mine for almost a week now

just have to much slipping to get anything usable printed

Hey @Brook_Drumm , what gives? Are simpls prone to slipping out of the box? I keep telling people who want a cheap but quality bot to buy a simpl, are there some caveats wrt to reliability I should be adding?

@Tim_Rastall think people are afraid to tighten their strings to twang or they haven’t glued the sand paper drum on right.
The only slippage I had was when I knocked the bed or the arm.

@Tim_Rastall I had trouble with slippage between inner diameter if tubing and the motor shaft. I cut a little 2mm notch in the tubing and it clamped down much better.

I suspect that the tubing resists “collapsing” around the shaft.

Basically if you lick the slippage there, the sanding drums will do fine.

@Tim_Rastall my slippage is my own fault, not tight enough, and I had to replace the line with something else (cut mine to short)

I do hope to get it working better so that I can print the larger print area upgrade files I found

For anyone looking to upgrade their PB Simple, “iamjonlawrence” has some excellent parts on Thingiverse. There’s another that has some nice x/y/z axis extensions as well, but I can’t recall the user name at the moment.

All good suggestions! Saving cost is a trade off. Solving slippage on the motor shafts and absolutely tight string is key.

Mine has ‘iamjonlawrence’ “Double Precision” belt mods on both X and Y currently. I think I’m going to print up some parts for the axis extensions next. There’s even one that extends the Z axis!

Yeah there is some backlash, and I agree that the string can work, but it’s a bit fiddly. I’ve had issues with making it too tight then it slips off the pulley. My plan is to print these parts now then fiddle with the string, then at least I’ll have the belt parts if anything goes wrong.

The simple is a fine printer, my guess is people who get a premade unit will probably not have as many issues with the string on the axes, but I can understand why the new metal simple is using belts.
