Just loaded Cura V15.04.4 saw something new I haven’t noticed before. Went to older version and saw it was there too, so probably been in for a while.
You can disable solid top or bottom infill. I’ve always thought if I could have a print leave one side open I could fill it with epoxy to make a stronger part. seems I can and will try when I need something rock hard.

I just printed an extruder arm and tried this. there are some lessons to be learnt but it has promise. I think the way to do it right is to print a hook twice this way and as you would normally ans see how much more weight it can take. 1st off i left it with a 24% infill which is to much around 10% would allow the glue to run down to fill it easier. when it dries ill post photos.

This was intended for things like vases where some people would just simply design them solid. Thin walls would crash a lot of slicers, so the tradeoff happened to be to create the model solid, and allow the slicer to determine how many walls to put, no top/no bottom, etc. Just easier that way. This has been in most slicers since…eh…2013 or so.

See what happens when you think. Hey this would be nice but you don’t actually look to see if it’s already there. I was wondering what it’s real purpose is.

I mean, 3D printing is basically just for decorative vases anyways, right? (/s)

And yodas :-p
