Just ordered the new   from PrintrBot, for my Simple Metal.

Just ordered the new #Ubis13 from PrintrBot, for my Simple Metal. Can anyone link me to a video or guide for replacing my current hot end?

If you have a printrbot it should be plug and play. Just have to connect the fan to the 12v on the printrboard. The rest is just editing retraction settings and such.

It uses the same thermistor

Ah, that’s fine then, thanks. I’m just the worst at putting any kind of hardware together (4 out of 4 soldering attempts led to short circuits and minor electrocution)

It’s not really plug and play. The hotend should have a piece of paper with a url with instructions but they’re not very clear. It’s more than just removing the old hotend and plugging in the new thermistor and heater cable. No soldering required though. Send me a message if you have any trouble installing it, I’d be happy to help.

Sidenote - no fan shrouds for the original fan fit, I’m working on one this weekend.

I’ll probably take you up on that offer  Thanks!

As for the fan shroud, I actually did without one for a while anyway.

I find this fan shroud provides the best surface quality so I’ll be making a revision of it:

Awesome! The model description on that page does say it works with the latest hot end

It doesn’t. If you print in ABS you can force it but it I wouldn’t really call that fitting.

True.

I’ll post my updated one once I test it. It might be a week I’m waiting on a replacement part. I was trying to print Ninjaflex with the original Alu extruder with a printed adapter and I had to keep dissembling the extruder. I wound up stripping the mount on the motor and now the tensioner arm with the bearing won’t stay on. I fixed it for a little while by removing the washer but it kinda crapped out. Should have the design on thingiverse within a week though and I’ll post a link to this community.

That would be awesome!

If you strip the idler arm hole, just rotate motor 89 degrees counter clockwise. The upper left hole is unused. Could also swap motor w the z motor- 3 screws to mount is sufficient

@Brook_Drumm I was using that hole for http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:730243 so I didn’t even realize it was originally unused. I’ll try removing that and just rotating it thanks!

Yep

@Adam_Steinmark Looks like I will be needing help. Already stuck on step 2! Any idea how to take the hotend white thingy out of the Printrboard? I’m using Rev F5 if that helps.

Message me on hangouts with pics, that’s too vague.

Yeah, I got it now, though. But now, my Printrbot (board, specifically) no longer responds to anything. The power light comes on, but the extruder fan does not. Nor do SD cards or USB on any OS work.

Any ideas?
