Just plunged a cemented carbide graver into my 3-jaw chuck at about 4000 RPM. That was pretty sweet. #notsweet

I had a similar minor issue last week. Plunged a 4mm hss endmill through the workpiece. And then the plate steel support I had. Then the ground table top. At 3m/min. All still intact but table bears a dunces witness mark now.

@Long_Nguyen It survived actually. Just needs to be resharpened. The chuck will wear the “dunces witness mark” to the grave however.

@J.P_Saini The speed was fine for the part I was cutting (CNC lathe by the way, not mill). It just wasn’t so great when I drove the graver into the chuck.

What type of lathe ? I just bought a Taig myself resently.

Sherline. I love it, contrary to the evidence of recent events.
