Just posted a full build video for my “Rings of Saturn” LED Pendant Light. I used FastLED code compiled from various sources and adapted to control these rings of SK6812 WWA LEDs with an Arduino Mega.
Super build and build video!
@marmil Thanks, much appreciated!
Those are very impressive! Love the build video as well, quite detailed
I put the (very crude) code up, if anyone is interested. Shout out to @Stefan_Petrick , @Cine-Lights , @Natural_Nerd , and probably a couple others I’m forgetting. This code is basically a mash up of all the music reactive code that these guys created, with a few simple mods.
spectacular! you may be able to get rid off the black cables using instead the stainless wires for power and data!
@Benjamin_Davoult I would love to use stainless wires for power/data, but no idea where to start with that. Do you have any info on this you could share?
@Post-Master_Sodium Thanks!
It is pretty straightforward : you just have to link the upper fixation system of the suspension wire to the pin of the microcontroller using a regular electrical wire (solder should work, but simply squeeze the electrical wire under the screw of the fixation device should work as well), then do the same inside the ring to link the lower fixation system of the support wire to the LED strip with a regular electrical wire. Then you will have only the suspension wire linking the rings to the ceiling, and no black wires, the electric signals and power travelling directly through the supporting cables! the cables being quite distant one from the others, and the voltage quite low, it will be safe enough even without insulation. furthermore, some lamps use this kind of method to transmit the power up to the lightbulb (like the tizio lamp, no wire, everything directly into the structure).
@Benjamin_Davoult and would do the same with the ground and control wires thru separate suspension cords? My only concern is the amount of current that could flow thru them and the fact it is made from wood…
Wood is a very good insulator, no problem.
Yep, if I were you, that the way I would walk, for sure! Your project is wonderfully done, so it is more like a way to get closer to absolute perfection by getting rid of those quite visible black cords, nothing vital but you seem to be someone with an eye for the details ^^
@Benjamin_Davoult I’m more worried about heat and fire than insulation – if the resistance of the hanging wire is too great, it could be an issue, no?
