Just printed a very powerfull upgrade for the prusa mendel.
What purpose does it serve?

they go under the feet as vibration dampners… Im guessing they work well never tried them tho

Vibration dampeners!
What most people don’t realise is that ALL noise is “a vibration”… and with these little guys on the feet of your machine your vibrations AND therefore noise are dampened.
The machines are usually a LOT quieter after this upgrade. and in my experience, my X and Y axes would kind of “jump” or shudder when moving at very high (travel) speeds. Installing the dampeners has allowed me to travel twice as fast (or twice as smooth at the same original travel speed).
Can’t recommend them enough, although mine are these ones (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:91720) so I can’t vouch for the ones pictured above. But the results of proper vibration dampening are priceless (if your bot is perfect and has no vibration at all then these will obviously not do much!)
