“LEANING TOWER OF MAKERBOT”! :frowning: ?
(Print: Pac-Man ghost.)

MakerBot Replicator 5th Gen is printing slanted (in the negative x direction). I’ve read that “drift is always a mechanical thing, usually a belt, or a loose X motor wire or endstop switch/wire (if drift is in the X)”(http://3dprintboard.com/showthread.php?4847-XY-Plane-Drift-Problem-MakerBot-Replicator-5th-Gen). I also found a MakerBot YouTube on adjusting the x-axis pulley tension, but on the Replicator 2 (https://youtu.be/fV4BFUdVx4U) - perhaps the 5G is similar. Anyhow, any info, links, suggestions, experience/insights, etc., would be much appreciated. TIA.

P.S. FYI, I was informed that a “cone-shape” spring was found in the MB box upon opening. Perhaps it is related to the problem(?). Unfortunately, the spring has since been “misplaced”.

I have an A8 nd this happened to me right before the Y belt came off. The end cap to the motor came off during a print and as the bed went back the belt started sliding towards the end and then popped off, but not before the print started leaning.

woah

Update: FIXED!

  • Took pulley gears completely off shaft.
  • Reoriented gears to align properly w/ landing on shaft.
  • Tightened set screws, and applied LocTite.
  • Adjusted tension of pulley (just one: looping around both shafts; interesting mechanism: NOT separate x-axis and y-axis control per motor).
  • Reseated cable to motors.

  • Still experiencing extruder jams.
  • Tests show under extrusion.

*So, have put in for a SMART EXTRUDER +. Hopefully, that will improve things to an extent that make this printer a viable asset to put into service at the Factur makerspace where I “work”.

P.S. Anybody who would like to chime in good, bad, or indifferent about their experience with the 5TH GENERATION Makerbot, please, go right ahead…
