I like to know what flavor of Linux everyone is using and what other related software. it would be nice if we could get a sub-forum going related to Linux and questions people have.
thanks

Hey !
You can use any Linux distribution you’d like.
What type of cnc machine do you have, so I can recommend some software ?
Cheers.
I havent completed my CNC - right now Im working on a laser engraver.
I
Alright so.
As I said the linux distribution you are using does not matter, it can be any distribution.
To control the machine, you can use programs like Pronterface ( also called Printrun ), or Octoprint.
Or you can also use a simpler serial terminal program like Cutecom
Do you know how you will be generating G-code, or do you want some advice on that too ?
Cheers.
I haven’t done any cnc in Linux so a g coder would be nice. I use Inventor for doing the 3D drawings.
Thanks
One of the resons I asked about Linux flavors was that Linuxcnc seems to only work well with debian and does not work with Ubuntu or Mint.
For G-code generation lots of us use Cambam and like it a lot ( but it’s not free. it’s cheap though ).
Other options include pycam, heekscad, dxf2gcode ( gcodetools ? )
Cheers.
thanks Non Free is ok also.
