Looking at buying my first 3d printer....

Looking at buying my first 3d printer… What do people think of these two options? Basically the same as each other just one has a lcd. Is there another option in the price range i should look at… I would like to add on to it latter to do auto bed leveling.

Try to find cheaper without gift filament. I bought a similar kit, and noname chinese plastic is really bad. It melts bad and need to frequently clean the nozzle. Some problems with the parts of the printer itself and the assembly instructions, but in the end I was able to assemble it fine.

Ok, Can you recommend a good Chinese brand of plastic to buy.

I can’t. In the printer kit box also was small piece of trial ABS filament and it was great. But now I buy it from a guy who makes his own plastic for the local sale with his own filament extruder.

Why not buy a printrbot? They are super high quality.

My advice after 4 generations of 3d printers?
stay away from the chinese and from super-cheap printers in general and save up for an Ultimaker II.
Unless your intention is not to actually 3d print designs but to make fixing and tuning and repairing and cleaning your 3d printer your actual hobby.

I’ve just bought this, delivering this month. i think its a fantastic machine and priced very well. check it out .

@Dianne_Fontayne1 so you have it for less then 2 weeks and consequently cannot give any advise on it’s long term reliability with different filaments and layer heights and maintenance. The carthesian bot looks well designed but there’s very little about it’s extruder, hot-end and software.

Also bed leveling is great, even if you just use the sensor as a Z-stop, removed so much frustration for me… And I like the kit designed… I got a crappy Chinese kit for more than that. This one looks rather nice at first glance(Especially the ACME/square thread Z axis). And so long as you enjoy fiddling and don’t mind a bit of learning and playing, the i3’s are great. If it turns out the hot-end is rubbish or you don’t like the electronics or anything, you can just replace it with a huge range of standard parts.

@Electra_Flarefire Yea, i think im happy with that… have have a Linux ccontrolledmill that i have built and its a bit like that but works very well now

@Electra_Flarefire Yes the Z axis’s is one of the things that i think looks good in this design

@Mark_Rehorst Both of these do have SD card support… But only one a screen… so im not sure how the RAMPS board software normally works yet… but i guess you can start a print from a computer and it will read it from the SD card and not need you to keep the computer on.??.. Being a linux user my computer does not do things like reboot with out first being given my authority

Consider the Solidoodle brands. Lots of good choices for just a few pennies more. The Press has auto-bed leveling too. Really nice equipment. The SD4 is a standard here
