The Extruder/hotend piece utilizes a 40mm cooling fan funneled/nozzled at the print area. However, in addition to the direction not being ideal (far side doesn’t get nearly enough cooling), the 40mm fan setup is also under powered.
What I’d love to find is a drop in blower fan with a 40x40 exhaust port that bolt matches the original 40mm fan. Am I dreaming?
Side note: It is interesting that I’ve only really started to notice issues with insufficient cooling since upgrading my Simple. The stock one had no cooling, and seemed to perform quite adequately.
Hopefully I’m not chasing my tail too much with this path…
Had a similar issue, unfortunately the blower I used uses too much current and the steppers were skipping steps. Sorry I can’t be of more help but I’d contact Printrbot to see how much current their fan draws. The original fan may also have the model number on it and then you can just pull up the manufacturer specs.
I’ve overhauled a Simple Metal in the past, including a blower fan upgrade (using a blower fan I got from RobotDigg): https://grabcad.com/library/printrbot-simple-metal-modifications-1
Not exactly sure if the bolt pattern and geometry of your Simple is the exact same though
So my plan is to make 2 pieces. One to adapt a blower to an existing 40mm fan mount. And a second to enhance the nozzel/duct (https://www.thingiverse.com/download:506156) to wrap around the tip more effectively.
