Looking for gift ideas… I have no idea what I want for Christmas, my girlfriend wants me to make up my mind… so I am reaching out to the community for stuff I might want to add to my tool box. 3d printing tools, filaments, ect… what gift would you ask for?
Jes an ultimaker 3
Framing? Steppers? BL touch or Mini IR sensor? 500 M3x12mm screws? sheet of high density silicon rubber? 3d filament pen to do touch ups and attachments? A cat that is documented to NOT chew on low voltage DC wiring? An explanation of why cats often do that?
funny enough, I don’t want people to buy me 3d printing stuff. I mean, I like my printer even though I don’t really have it printing well yet, but I prefer to buy those things myself, so i feel like i did it the whole way through… so I asked for beer/cider brewing supplies
The thing is I have a laser engraver a 3d printer and a cnc router… the 3d printer is the newest toy so I have the least amount of accessories for it
I only have the 3d printer off that list, and only for a few months now… The things I’ve bought myself off the top of my head are:
-painters tape
-elmer’s glue sticks
-Aqua Net hairspray
-bearings to make a better spool holder (not complete)
-heatsinks
-a scraper for prying up models
-raspberry pi3 + camera for OctoPi
-filament
-big plastic tub to put all of that stuff in when the printer isn’t in use
-dessicant packs for tub
-blower fans that i haven’t installed yet
probably more… what printer did you get?
PrintrBot Plus… it was ready to go right out of the box
Looks like a nice one, but there are always upgrades
I bought a cheapo kit, which I probably shouldn’t have, because I wanted to learn more than I wanted little plastic things
Looking at that, the only things that I can think of are a sealable container for filament and a transparent build enclosure. Else than that, I would probably have her buy something non-hobby related. You might eventually go on to vacuum forming or CNC lathing eventually, but that is another matter.
@NathanielStenzel I run a cnc lathe shop as my day job
There is always forge parts so I can cast 3d prints in aluminum brass and bronze
@Alex_Krause that kinetic sand stuff is sometimes used for molding molten metal. It can be found at Toys R Us or made. A few videos say where they get it in bulk. The Toys R Us size would help you get a taste for if you like it or not. A tube of silicone rubber could be used if you want to make molds for lower temperatures that would last longer, but so would flexible filament…that a number of people with 3D printers can not use. A touch probe for a CNC mill could be useful if you have the software to use it. If not, a 3D scanner might be good.
Raspberry pi for Octoprint or similar
Webcams for remote monitoring?
