Looking forward to playing with multi material prints with my new Cyclops hot end. Fitted to my dual direct drive micro extruder.

@Steve_Wood_Gyrobot can this be used with any printer, or is it specific to certain printers?
@Scott_Darrow You need the electronics to be able to handle dual extrusion, and you may need an adaptor designed if you are going to side mount it like on the prusa i3 rails, but it should be doable for a lot.
@Steve_Wood_Gyrobot
I have electronics to handle dual extrusion. My printer is a ZMorph 2.0S and I have a dual extruder for it, but I like the cyclops design. The x-axis slides on two smooth rods similar to the I3, but the rods are horizontally parallel, not stacked vertically like the I3. I assume it would work if I disgned an adaptor for it to ride on my smooth rods. My extruder has quick connectors for swapping out tool-heads, so I guess I would have to get another quick connector to match and wire the cyclops that way.
This is a cool design. Have you noticed any skipping or slipping?
I figure it’s capable of at least the typical 30mm/s that bowden can do with the cyclops.
@Mike_Kelly_Mike_Make
I assume you are referring to back pressure of the Cyclops missing extruder steps not the xy mechanics of the dual head missing steps?
I will let you know over time, my first print came out well without any skipping using dual PLA. If I go down the route of flexible hands with rigid bones then 30mm/s is normalish speeds for Filaflex.
The mechanics of the machine will go much faster and the dual head isn’t heavy, I have printed Filaflex with this dual head before (twin nozzles) at 90mm/s : https://youtu.be/qN4ZmwwCuR8
Correct. Just curious how a direct drive non geared extruder would perform with the back pressure the cyclops has.
That’s pretty impressive to print the flex filament that fast. Really makes me want to go with at least one direct feed extruder quickly.
Really nice design.
Embarrassingly you have beaten us to it @Steve_Wood_Gyrobot ! I have yet to get a Cyclops running on direct, but we shouldn’t be far behind you with a new toy that we have been working on!
@Joshua_Rowley I just needed the Cyclops to be in stock otherwise it would have been months ago
OK OK! Don’t make me feel worse!!
