Looking to buy my first 3d printer, has any one used a velleman k8200-3d printer and is it a good printer to start with.
I bought the printer about a month ago and find it to be good for its price. The build manual is also very complete.
And they did some improvements in the newer kits.
As it is my first 3d printer it is hard to compare.
What sort of things have you made
Afinia was a great printer for us.
@jason_stephenson I think as long as its a kit, and you build it yourself, go for it! It was such a learning experience going that route and I suggest it to everyone.
Ya it’s a kit, wanted to get a kit so I could built it with my daughter. We want a 3d printer so we can start learning and building a robot.
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the price tag on that kit?
K8200 is priced at £699
@jason_stephenson I first build some small test cubes with the supplied pla and after that made the cas for the electronics they mentioned. I did make the fan duct from thingiverse (look for k8200) the one that goes around the print head.
I think that is a must for small pieces as it does not cool fast enough without it.
Further I printed some toys (plane, duck) and a holder for the lunch box and bottle of the kids so it won’t spill on their books.
And last thing was a hook to hang up the Xmas lights. I did find that using paper masking tape on the build platform and putting the head at ~1-2mm above the platform reduces the wrapping to zero. (on pla)
@Trae_Dantzler i bought mine for 699€

What’s the best 3d design software to use on a Mac ( maverick osx)
@jason_stephenson I started with TinkerCad.com and I love it, but I also use sketchup when I need more flexibility and I really want to learn to use @CoffeeSCad better.
@jason_stephenson , great idea to build with your kid, I don’t know if I’d be able to control my swearing though, lol
@Eric_Moy Give them ear plugs and tell them not to copy u, works for me
