Using Field’s metal, burning out the PLA would happen at a higher temperature than the casting would.

Yeah, I just noticed that a few minutes ago - that the Field’s metal would be running cooler than the PLA to be burnt out! The problem is more that the PLA will still soften, so @Christopher_Benjamin 's idea might not work so well. Perhaps with ABS and really carefully heated field’s metal?
