Made a fair bit of progress on the this evening, it's so close,

Made a fair bit of progress on the #fuseboxcorexy this evening, it’s so close, I can taste it. All I’m missing are the belts, 2 endstops and a coupler. I’m really missing the display as well, so I’ll probably end up picking that up tomorrow. Had to forgo my usual 2 layer fan set-up as there wasn’t enough space. However, there is space for a sensor, so that will probaby happen at some point. The idlers have been reinforced as I kept breaking the top bearing holder. My Carriers and Carriage seem to work well, we’ll see when the belts come in tomorrow whether they’ll work properly. The bed is currently missing the front 2 holders which are printing now. I think it’ll be printing by the weekend.

This printer intrigues me. Are you redesigning parts of it? The original parts looked weak.

@Stephanie_A - Aye, I’m going through and reworking any part that a) I don’t like the look or functionality of or anything that just doesn’t work or b) anything that my Monkey fisted hands break several times. I’m now to the point where the only original parts are the frame braces and motor holders are the original designs. The rest have been either redesigned or had reinforcement added. I’m seriously thinking about upgrading the Z rods to 10 or 12mm to add Z stability, but I’ll see what happens with this design first. If anything, I over-engineer a part, so things shouldn’t break.

@Ax_Smith-Laffin thanks for the information on the changed parts. I’ve had my eye on this printer as a summer project and was curious if it worked right out of the gate or if it would require some tinkering to get printing 100%

The Smartcore Alu may be helpful to look at if you’re having issues http://smartfriendz.com/en/home/54-smartrapcore-alu-2597462281828.html

The z rods are only 8mm on a cantilevered design? Bad…
Ditch the printed frame supports and get metal ones.

@Mike_Dobrick - When I’m done, it should be just build and go.

@john_cummings - Cheers, I’ll take a look

@Stephanie_A - The Frame supports have been looked at, and aye, the 8mm on Cantilevered isn’t ideal. This was a learning experience for me, so I went from a base and ended up with pretty much a printer of my own design. I’m gonna run it as is for the moment and see what happens. The 10/12mm rods on the Z will probably be ordered after a while, but I’m an impatient git, so I want to see it printing, like yesterday… xD

This looks fantastic! I’m toying with the idea of building myself a printer as well. I love my PrintrBot and would like a second, larger printer.

How sturdy is this approach, is there any noticeable flex in the frame and linear guides? I’m guess the printed parts are PLA for less flex in the joints?

I won’t know about flex fully until I get a few prints out of it. The Frame is pretty damn rigid, even with the printed parts. They are printed in a mix of @colorFabb_Filament 's NGEN and eSun PLA (I ran out of NGEN ). There may be some Z wobble due to the 8mm rods, not ideal for a cantilevered bed. If I can get the extruder sorted, it’ll be doing it’s first print tonight.

@Ax_Smith-Laffin I look forward to seeing the results!

Just calibrating E Steps and it’s first print time…
