Main frame done. Prototype XY done, but I need to cut down the rods so it fits in the frame.

Now I am building the prototype z stage, substituting lead screws with 8mm x 1.0 rod. It’s nice to see things coming together. And more importantly what should be redesigned.

Looks very nice. Did you start with someone’s plan?

Nice, totally dig the tensioner on the z. You still going to give a go at a core xy config?

This thing is gunna be strong.

@Joshua_Marinacci frame was inspired by 3dbotz unit. Rest was all mine from scratch in solidworks.

@Eric_Moy I am going to see how the h-bot performs first. If there are issues I already have the CoreXY varient designed. The change from H-bot to CoreXY would be pretty easy.

@Wayne_Friedt just for fun I stood in it (with a piece of plywood on top). This thing’s a beast. I always design for overkill. Inherited that from my Dad.

I think you could skip the plywood and still be incredibly strong.

Or try using aluminum or Dibond on top to keep with the industrial look of it.

I think the x stage is partially disassembled. He used to have 2 rods stacked vertically in his previous posts

The plywood is temporary. I needed to test my design cheaply before paying the cost of the aluminum and CNC work.

@Eric_Moy yup things were half assembled. I had to run out the door for thanksgiving… But wanted to share my progress before I left.

Do you mean on Z? For Y I have two parallel rods (one per side) under the plywood. For X I have two rods stacked vertically and connected at the ends riding on the Y rods. Z travel is just the bed up and down. It will ride on the two pieces of open builds vslot.

@Eclsnowman , you’ve inspired me to work on my design again. I like the idea of the vertical stacked rods for x. I’m doing core xy, and thinking instead of stacking and crossing the two belts, have one above the y rods and one below. Not sure how it’ll work out. Just finished modeling and constraining the rods and bearings in solid works. Will upload pics once I get the pulleys in

@Eric_Moy love to see your design

8mm x 1.0 threaded rod on Z for now until I can afford real lead screws .
