making a backpack for myself and my brother to accompany our helmets, suits, and shoes. Just running a simple strand test on the backpack. using a SmartMatrix to drive the center display wit an amplified microphone for pickup of ambient sound. sorry for the poor video quality, just shot it on my phone
I 3d printed the whole backpack (as seen in the following pictures) each segment has 8 WS2812B led’s diffused by packing foam (looks much better n person) I might not have the time to code anything better for animations for the backpack, so if anyone has any suggestions for potentially cool displays i would love to hear it
the led’s are sort of soldered in a weird pattern (as in in pictures)
That’s really awesome!
Excelent work!
@Aren_Hibbing Do you have this posted somewhere else with a link? Would love to blog this for Adafruit!
@Leslie_Birch unfortunately I do not have any other links to this project (or any other lol) Just one of those things I never got around to
@Aren_Hibbing Any chance you can post this video to youtube? Makes it easier to blog about it.
Does anyone recognize the board/sequencer that is being used in this project?
@Leslie_Birch I just travelled back to work, I work a camp job of 2 weeks in 2 weeks out. If you are not under any time constraints I have been meaning to take a better quality more comprehensive video of the whole getup (Beefed up adafruit FireWalker shoes, EL tracksuit, Daft Punk helmets, and the backpack) I have also been meaning to write up an instructable on each piece. If you would like something sooner, when I get home I’ll see what I can do about a better video with some pictures of the build process.
@Aren_Hibbing I managed to find the board you used at Adafruit :). Anyway, I did create the post which will be live shortly. I’m happy to give you the attention. Also, you should write an Instructable because your work is really creative and beautiful. You can always ping me when you do wearable tech work
@Leslie_Birch Oh haha, The SmartMatrix is just a breakout for the teensy 3.1 to drive a HUB75 display board. The SmartMatrix code is quite brilliant. The backpack itself is just driven by and arduino. I will definitely drop you a message when I pretty everything up with a better video and whatnot
@Aren_Hibbing Sounds cool–TY! Keep making!
