if you add tiny structures within the first two layers (holes or thin circles) of just 0.2mm, just enough that your slicer will not ignore them but small enough that they will not leave surface markings. Using a concentric bottom fill pattern will give you a nice meander look. Oh you have to use a filament with iridescend particles (silver, metall, pearl etc… ) else you only get a plain surface.
I love that idea! I used the micro holes to add strength in places where it had to be stronger, but never really looked at the look of the part. Thanks!
@Mark_Trounce It is not a surface effect. The particle orientation is set when extruding (fluid dynamics). If you look at the center part on the “coin spinner” – there i let the holes go through so you see the upper side. It may be that this look rough but is sanded with 1200 to a matte finish.
Very cool idea. I use the concentric top/bottom setting a lot on parts that have solid planes with no holes to get a good fill. Never use it on surfaces with holes because of the effect on the surface pattern. Never thought of trying to manipulate the pattern like that intentionally
@Mark_Trounce probably dependend of the particle form and size - so hard to say. But if they give a unique surface when polished - you wouldn’t see any pattern at all. I think it is unlikely that somthing show pattern only on the surface when the pattern came from the extrusion process.
