Yeah I wonder what that will do to filament availability. Nearly every US filament supplier uses Village AFAIK… If I was 3DS the first thing I would do is lock that down.

Aside: I removed that great big Yahoo! logo from the post. It’s an article posted on Yahoo’s news site about 3D Systems acquiring Village Plastics. :slight_smile:

I guess they just want more decentralization. Sounds good to me. haha.

It’ll hopefully be good news for anyone stuck using 3D Systems machines with their proprietary cartridge system.

Village makes the plastic for Makerbot? Fingers crossed that DDD and SSYS keep themselves distracted with fighting each other.

3D Systems’ ticker symbol is DDD…

haha. Fixed it. That’s what I meant.

…and Stratasys effectively owns MakerBot now. Sins of the father and all that. :wink:

In the beginning yes, MBI sourced their plastic from VP. Not too long ago there were some posts showing they’d invested in some internal filament R&D infrastructure (perhaps small-mass-production scale) so I don’t expect they are as dependent on VP (if at all) as they were to begin with.

Wait for the 1.2mm filaments, hahaha

@J_O11 The Mojo uses 1.3mm

Haha, I was just making that up @Whosa_whatsis but I guess it’ll be more of the same coming soon eh?

I look forward to the Makerbot marketing campaign espousing the merits of including a new hotend and filament drive with every filament cartridge.

Oh Damn!
