Methods of tensioning ACMEs. Besides using the tensioning nut, has anyone come up with a clever method of tensioning the ACMEs? I feel like I’m not able to tighten then enough with the nut.
Let the set screw on the lock collar just barely enter the threads. Hold the acme with a pair of pliers (out of travel, right behind the plate) then with another set of pliers twist on slowly and carefully. It should be noted, I actually found issues tightening the ACMES too much. There was an alternative a while back when I was using thrust washers, created a number of problems with harmonics and vibration, so just moved to a looser system and everything has been golden. Well… till ben recently has been having issues, but about to post on that.
I might give this a go this morning. I have a lot of whipping and am betting it’s this.
