More isn’t always better!

Nice Review! now i understand a bit more about the Controllerthing.
Sounds to me like it’s better on the hardware side, just lacking on the software side.
Probably because @Elias_Bakken is doing it pretty much on his own, I think.
Wow. You really had me sold until the price at the end.
Excellent info, as always. Thanks!
Hm… maybe marlin will support it one day?!
Sounds like great hardware, maybe a bit expansive, but if the lag of good software and dokumentation would be solved it might be worth it… if
Definitely a work in progress. I’ve got the CRAMPS board (which is, AFAICT, a pre-cursor to the Replicape) and I can see why software takes a while to catch up. In terms of overall capability I expect that eventually all controllers will be based on some sort of Linux controller but the software gap is still pretty large.
So can smothieboard can be considered the one of the top electronics right now when it comes to software and hardware.
But faster is always better
@Thomas_Sanladerer thanks for a thurogh review, very good work! We are working on a new revision with a significantly lower price and also towards a 1.0 version of Redeem, so hopefully we can clear up your anchoring points within a few months:)
Great video! I have replicape and smoothie and everything in the video was spot on. I would really like to see somebody port marlin or smoothie software to the BBB. I will do it myself if I can find the time. Replicape is great hardware and I am looking forward to surfing the net, slicing, and printing from the same $250 piece of hardware, which btw, will also stream live video from a webcam to your tablet in octoprint.
@Daniel_Jones According to Erik porting Marlin wouldn’t offer any advantages or be able to fully exploit the capabilities of the board. It’s going to take a full rewrite to fully utilize the capability of the hardware. Right now for 2.5D apps like routers and laser engraver/cutters it’s a solid solution.

@Chuck_McManis CRAMPS came after Replicape, but it’s been built as a lower price alternative and to be compatible with LinuxCNC. Replicape was always built as a no-compromise board in terms of which components that were used. There is still some work left to make it perfect, though, but I’m looking forward to the challenge
@Elias_Bakken , the board would be totally worth it with the software that were equally powerful
hi @Elias_Bakken ! is it possible to use Redeem with CRAMPS instead of Replicape?
@ThantiK glad to hear you say that! The develop branch has a great Delta algorithm, bed compensation and PID autotune, but it still needs some love to be pushed into 1.0 state. This is a big priority now, and will definitely be done by the next Kickstarter.
@Jarek_Szczepanski It should be possible, yes, but it does require some integration. Unfortunately I do not have time to make that a priority, but I welcome any effort to make it a reality
