Hmmm that aluminum tape autolevel looks quite familiar;-) awesome videos !!!
“It’s extruding backwards!”
I’ve been thinking of adding glass to my PrintrBot + but wasn’t sure how to deal with the sensor, never dawned on me to use aluminum tin foil!
@Cornelius_Wiens look at some of my older posts. If you have an old printrbot you might need to change your firmware config to have z safe homing but its super easy. Autoleveling is super simple and well worth it!
You need the thick aluminum tape but it totally works.
@Joe_Spanier Oh, so not just aluminum tin foil from the kitchen, but actual aluminum tape?
People have had luck with aluminum foil, but you either need to double it up or change to a different sensor. I would just get some aluminum tape. So much easier to install, and it looks more professional, and it is more robust. I have been using the same strips for months now and they still work and level like new.
Yeah, the aluminum tape was a temporary solution. I might switch it over to a different type of switch, or at least fine tune where it probes and use smaller pieces of tape. Unfortunately the probe isn’t sensitive enough to detect the aluminum underneath the glass and pei sheet.
